vdrl (rpr) for syphilis

About this package
The Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test is used to diagnose Syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by a spirochete Treponema pallidum. This test detects antibodies generated by your body in response to antigens produced by bacteria-damaged cells. Syphilis can cause long-term complications by invading the nervous and cardiovascular system, if not treated properly. It may also be transmitted from infected mother to child during pregnancy or at birth, resulting in congenital Syphilis. Book Thyrocare's VDRL test at a low cost with the home collection.

FAQ

Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) is a non-treponemal test used to screen for syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease. The test detects the presence of nonspecific antibodies produced by the body while fighting the infection. RPR test also helps monitor the progress of syphilis treatment, wherein the level of antibodies should fall after treatment with antibiotics. However, unchanged levels may suggest persistent infection.

There is no special preparation required before taking this test, and only an intravenous blood sample is required.

You can locate our nearest collection center on Google Maps or can avail of this test in the comfort of your home. You can opt for our home collection services while booking.

RPR test can be combined with Treponema pallidum haemagglutination (TPHA) or Treponema pallidum Antibody (TPAB) tests.

You might feel a sting while the needle is inserted to draw blood. On rare occasions; after blood collection, the site rarely feels irritated, reddish or swollen, which can be relieved by applying ice packs to the site.

The most common mode of transmission of syphilis is through unprotected sexual contact. It can also be transmitted from infected mothers to babies during pregnancy.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacterium Treponema pallidum. The risk factors of syphilis infection are as follows Unprotected sexual activities, Multiple sex partners, Sexual contact with an infected partner, Babies born to infected mother

Negative results suggest the absence of syphilis, Positive results indicate the presence of syphilis. Nevertheless, doctors can suggest more specific treponemal tests, including Treponema pallidum haemagglutination (TPHA), to confirm the diagnosis. TPHA test detects specific antibodies against syphilis-causing Treponema pallidum.
