Dhea - sulphate (dheas)

dhea - sulphate (dheas)

About this package
Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) is a steroid hormone, which plays animportant role in the development of secondary sexual characteristics during puberty. Although an androgen (male sex hormone), is present in both males and females. Secretion of DHEA-S is controlled by the adrenocorticotropic hormone produced by the pituitary gland. This test measures the levels of DHEA-S in your blood. Excess production of DHEA-S results in precocious puberty in boys and excess body hair, abnormal menstrual cycle, and ambiguous external genitalia in girls. DHEA-S may be used in the differential diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome. DHEA-S may also be used in the evaluation of adrenocortical diseases, such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia and adrenal tumors. Take the benefit of free home collection at a much affordable price

DHEA - S is the abbreviation for dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate. This test is also known as DHEAS or DHEA- Sulphate. The test is used to determine the level of dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate in both males as well as females and aids in evaluating the health as well as functioning of the adrenal glands, detecting adrenal tumours or cancers. The test aids in determining the cause of the development of masculine physical characteristics in females (virilization) or early puberty in boys.

Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate or DHEAS is a male sex hormone that is involved in the development of masculine sexual characteristics at puberty. It is found in both males as well as females. This hormone has a vital role in production of testosterone (male sex hormone) as well as oestrogen (female sex hormone).

Every individual with higher levels of DHEAS might not show symptoms. Signs of elevated DHEAS in adult males can be difficult to determine due to masculine secondary sexual characteristics. Females of certain ethnic groups may have elevated testosterone or DHEAS levels without symptoms.

Low levels of DHEAS hormone in the blood do not always mean you have a certain disease. Lower levels might be due to certain medications or supplements such as corticosteroids or oestrogen supplements.

Dehydroepiandrosterone or DHEA is converted to Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate or DHEAS in the adrenal glands and liver.

The man-made or synthetic form of DHEA or dehydroepiandrosterone is known as Prasterone.
